Awash with fear I cup my ear,
to hear the roaring wave’s advance.
When it will hit I’ve no idea,
it’s like a game of time and chance.
I’ve tried to swim to land before,
to cheat the bore with will alone,
but any time I near the shore,
a storm gets up and back I’m blown.
I know I can’t escape it now,
I turn and keep afloat and wait,
the cornered prey rehearsing how,
to let life go and meet his fate.
