Tired of crooked puppet shows and fairy tale lies,
the children stopped sucking their thumbs,
and slapped themselves awake for a moment.
They crowded around the corrupted puppeteer,
and kicked him to death for his treacherous deceptions.
After much debate, they decided on a champion.
They said he was different.
They said he was honest and spoke his mind.
They said he didn’t play by the bad man’s rules.
They said he would end the deception.
They hailed him as their new king.
And after all the speeches were made and all the backs were patted,
the king slipped away unnoticed into the secret changing room,
where he donned the ancient glove puppets of his predecessors,
and walked out to lull the children back to sleep with new stories.
